Why it is worth it
It removes the step that causes most bathroom falls. It makes a small bathroom read larger, because the floor runs uninterrupted. And it is the only shower a wheelchair or a walker can enter. It is also simply pleasant to use. That is why people who install one for accessibility rarely describe it that way afterwards.
What a curbless shower installation requires
Somewhere for the fall to go. On a slab that usually means recessing the shower area, or building the surrounding floor up slightly. It also means a genuinely continuous waterproofing detail. No curb acts as a last line of defence here. So this is not a place to economise on the membrane.
Doing it properly
Detail it to Tile Council of North America guidance. A linear drain at the wall lets the whole floor slope one way. That is what makes large-format tile and a flush transition possible. Decide the drain type, the slope and the membrane together, before you order anything.
