Bathroom Remodeling in Central Florida

Bathroom remodeling in Orlando happens in the smallest rooms we work in, and the ones where the most goes wrong, because almost everything behind the tile is either water or a drain. A bathroom remodel done properly is mostly waterproofing and slope. The finishes are the easy part.

What bathroom remodeling covers in Orlando

Waterproofing is the job

A shower that leaks does not usually announce itself. It shows up months later as a soft baseboard in the next room, or a stain on a ceiling below. On a slab-on-grade house, which is nearly all of them here, a failed pan means opening the floor.

So the parts of a bathroom you will never see are the parts worth paying attention to: a continuous waterproof membrane, the slope to the drain, how the curb and the corners are treated, and how the shower niche is detailed. We will walk you through what is going in behind the tile before it disappears.

Ventilation, because this is Florida

An extractor fan that vents into the attic instead of through the roof is one of the most common defects we find, and one the Florida Building Code does not permit, and in this climate it is not a small one. Warm wet air into an unconditioned attic is how you grow mould over a bathroom ceiling. Where we find it, we say so, and fixing it is usually inexpensive while the ceiling is open.

Planning to stay in the house

If the answer is yes, a bathroom is the room where that decision pays off. A curbless shower, blocking in the walls for grab bars now even if the bars go in later, a comfort-height toilet and a door wide enough for a walker are all far cheaper as part of a remodel than as a retrofit. None of it has to look clinical. See aging-in-place remodeling.

How long it takes

Bathroom remodeling in Orlando runs a few weeks for a straightforward guest bath. A primary bath that moves fixtures, or where we find rot under the pan, runs longer. Tile and waterproofing have cure times that cannot be compressed, and we would rather tell you that at the start than rush a membrane.

Not sure this is the right scope yet?

Most projects change shape once someone stands in the room. The walk-through is where that happens, and it costs nothing whether or not you go ahead.
