What we install
- Hurricane impact windows, laminated glass rated for both pressure and impact.
- Impact doors and front entry doors.
- Sliding glass door replacement, usually the largest opening in a Florida house and the one that leaks first.
- Hurricane shutters, where impact glass is not the right answer.
- Energy-efficient windows where the opening is already protected.
Impact glass or shutters
Both satisfy the opening protection requirement. They suit different situations.
Impact glass is permanent. Nobody deploys anything, and nobody has to be home. The benefit arrives every day of the year, in noise reduction and in what it does to a room. It does cost more up front.
Shutters cost less and protect the same openings. But somebody has to put them up, which means somebody has to be in town. For a seasonal home that stands empty in September, that is not a detail. It is the whole question.
Plenty of houses end up with both. Impact glass goes on the openings that are hard to reach, or that face the street. Shutters cover the rest.
Impact window ratings, and what actually matters
Two numbers govern the product. One is the design pressure the unit carries. The other is whether it also carries a large missile impact rating. The pressure a given opening needs depends on three things: where the house sits, how exposed it is, and where the opening falls on the wall. So an installer who quotes one product for the whole house, without doing that arithmetic, is guessing.
Every unit carries a product approval, and the permit references it. That paperwork is also what an insurer asks for later, so it is worth keeping.
Installing into concrete block
Most of the value is in the install, not the window. Crews anchor the unit to the block per the approval. They flash and seal the opening, so wind-driven rain cannot get behind the frame. Then they make good the interior and exterior finishes. An impact window installed into a poorly prepared opening is an expensive window that leaks.
Start with a walk-through
Openings get measured on site, because ordering from a plan is how you end up with the wrong unit. Tell us the city the home is in and roughly how many openings. Request a free estimate.
